Air Fryer Croque Monsieur

Air frying a Croque Monsieur is a great way to achieve a crispy, delicious sandwich without using a lot of oil. Here’s a simple recipe to make an air-fried Croque Monsieur:

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (white or whole grain)
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter (softened)
  • 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on two slices of bread (if using).
  2. Layer each slice with a slice of ham and a slice of cheese.
  3. Top with the remaining slices of bread to form two sandwiches.
  4. Spread softened butter on the outside of each sandwich. This will help achieve a golden, crispy texture.
  5. If you like, sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese on the buttered side of the sandwiches for extra flavour.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 175°C (350°F)for about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Place the sandwiches in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are not overcrowded; you may need to do this in batches.
  8. Air fry for about 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  9. Remove the sandwiches from the air fryer and let them cool for a minute. Cut in half and serve warm.

💡 You can add béchamel sauce to make it a Croque Madame (with a fried egg on top).
